Be Willing to Change – Set an Intention

In the previous article, Are You Ready to Get Naked, I outlined my signature five-step process to help you break free from Negative Body Obsession and live a life filled with peace, love, beauty, abundance, and joy.  As promised, I am going to go through each step in detail in the coming weeks.

This week we are looking at Step 1: Be Willing to Change – Set an Intention

The most important factor in changing our current situation is creating a vision and setting an intention.  Most people know when they want to change their current situation.  They know when they are unhappy.  They know when they are depressed and anxious, frustrated and stressed.  Yet often times they don’t have a vision for where they want to get to.  They focus on the difficulty of their current situation and can often become lost in the confusion, despair, and disappointment.
What many don’t realize is that we create our reality through our thoughts.  That’s right, with every thought you think you are manufacturing reality; you are creating your life.  We often think that life is something that happens to us, but the latest advances in science are showing us otherwise.  We are in the driver’s seat; we are creating our experience minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour.

Unfortunately, most people are creating their lives unconsciously.  They are being controlled and influenced by the past, most usually by their parents and teachers from childhood.  They are living their lives based on patterns they learned in childhood.  Many of these patterns are dysfunctional and destructive, so instead of creating a life of peace, joy, and abundance, they create lives of unhappiness, dissatisfaction, and discontent.
Fortunately, we can become conscious of how we are creating our lives.  We can discover the subconscious patterns and behaviors that influence us in negative ways.  Once we identify these old patterns, beliefs, and behaviors, we can begin to break free from them.

As we break free from these conditioned patterns, an amazing thing begins to occur.  We become more and more effective orchestrators of our lives.  We get in touch with our innate power to create.  We become increasingly aware of how we create our reality through our thoughts, emotions, and actions.

The first step in becoming more effective creators of reality is to set an intention.  Why?  An intention is our message to the universe about where we want to get to.  We don’t need to know how we are going to get there; we just need to a vision of what we want our lives to look like and feel like.  When we set an intention and keep it constantly in our mind it triggers the universe to orchestrate its fulfillment.  We need to know what we want.  The universe will work out the details of how and the when.  Intentions should always be in the present tense, as if what we want has already occurred.

Intentions can be used to manifest your dreams in any area of your life.  If you are struggling with your body image and/or your eating, some helpful intentions are:

  • I have a peaceful, easy, graceful relationship with my body
  • I eat the perfect foods in the perfect amounts to keep my body healthy and strong
  • I am beautiful
  • I love my body and myself
  • I have perfect health

These are just some examples; you know the intentions that are right for you.  Take the time right now to write down intentions for your life.  Carry them with you and look at them throughout the day.  When you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed at night are particularly helpful times.  If you meditate, read these intentions before and after meditation.

All change begins with a vision of what you would like to create.  Take the time to set an intention and begin to realize your ultimate power to create a reality you desire.
